To maximize your PC storage, you must master the Windows Recycle Bin, as files sent there continue to occupy actual hard drive space until they are permanently purged. Windows defaults to allocating roughly 5% of your drive volume to the Recycle Bin, meaning gigabytes of space may be wasted on old trash. Change the Maximum Storage Limit
You can restrict how much data the Recycle Bin holds before it begins permanently deleting the oldest files.
Right-click the Recycle Bin icon on your desktop and select Properties.
Select the specific storage drive you want to configure (each drive has its own partition bin). Choose Custom size.
Enter a lower maximum value in megabytes (MB)—remember that 1,024 MB equals 1 GB. Lowering a 50 GB limit down to 5,000 MB (approx. 5 GB) will instantly prevent excessive file accumulation. Click Apply and then OK. Automate Cleanup with Storage Sense
Instead of manually emptying the bin, let Windows manage it based on a timeline. YouTube·Ask Leo!
