WinImage is a long-standing Windows shareware utility designed to create, read, and edit exact sector-by-sector copies of physical disks. It is widely used in retro-computing, virtualization, and backup scenarios because it provides an Explorer-like interface to view and modify the files hidden inside raw disk images. How to Create a Disk Image

You can create an empty image container from scratch, or copy an existing physical drive (like a floppy disk, USB stick, or SD card) into a virtual image file. Method A: From a Physical Disk or Removable Drive Insert the physical drive into your computer.

Open WinImage (it is recommended to right-click and select Run as Administrator to allow raw drive access). Click on the Disk menu.

Select the drive letter corresponding to your physical media (e.g., Use removable disk G:). Go back to the Disk menu and click Read disk.

Choose a save location and a file format (such as .IMA or .IMG), then name your file and click Save. Method B: Creating an Empty Virtual Image Open WinImage and go to File →right arrow New.

Select a pre-defined format size from the pop-up list (e.g., standard 1.44 MB floppy size) or choose a Custom image format for larger storage capacities. Click OK to generate the blank image partition. How to Extract Files from a Disk Image
